Ninez supports the valuable efforts of pre-school and elementary programs in the region. These under-funded endeavors make a deeply significant transformation in the lives of children, mothers and families by offering: " post-natal care " early childhood development " family nutrition and health " parental training and support " music, movement arts and crafts for creative and small motor skill development " ethics and cultural teachings Mountains of Hope recognizes the vital importance of these programs for the future well being of children and communities. Instructors give crucial and otherwise unavailable information which benefits children during their most essential growth period. They work miracles with recycled materials and art supplies to create hands-on games and learning challenges for the children. Games and songs delight the kids and teach social skills. Mothers are directly involved in the activities and learn about creative interaction with their children. MoH supports two such programs, FODI and Amor a la Vida, by donating creative materials, renovating community pre-school centers, working together on child advocacy initiatives, and teaching hands-on workshops. FODI(Fondo de Desarrollo Infantil) is an award winning group of twelve dedicated instructors who serve over 600 pre-school children in the Pimampiro region. Each day they journey to surrounding Andean communities, sometimes on dirt bike along mountain roads, to teach new mothers and children. They perform vital in-home visits as well as a three hour group session. Amor a la Vida is a community based foundation that offers a special Saturday session to over 100 children. The volunteer instructors and mothers organize engaging cultural sessions of song, dance, art, traditional teachings and ethics. The focus is on reinforcing the values of the original Kichwa culture. The children are fed a nourishing meal at mid-day. |
